Electro-Optical Protection Measures (EOPM)

G&H | Artemis has built a strong reputation for supplying innovative Sensor and Detector Protection solutions for periscopes and cameras used on land vehicles.

Our production-ready electro-optical protection measures (EOPM) are employed in the latest generation of armoured vehicle sights, ensuring the safety and efficiency of military operations.

Our custom EOPM coatings are specifically designed to protect the sensors in advanced military infrared and day cameras, as well as sighting systems. With the increasing prevalence of targeting, range-finding, and spotting lasers on the battlefield, along with the rising use of laser weapon systems, it is vital for military forces to be equipped with solutions that counteract enemy lasers. These lasers can potentially damage sensors, rendering them unable to continue or complete their operation.

EOPM coatings are essential for blocking or redirecting damaging lasers at threat wavelengths away from sensitive components within these systems, while maximising transmission of non-threat in-band wavelengths of light required for human (visible) or sensor (typically IR) detection. This facilitates an improved signal-to-noise ratio at the critical sensors, ensuring optimal performance in various battlefield scenarios.

The level of protection that an EOPM filter provides at each element of the system is referred to as Optical Density (OD). The overall system's OD, representing the level of protection against laser threats found at the sensor, is the sum of the respective ODs at each optical element in a series. High optical density is achieved by filtering a small amount of laser energy at each optical element, utilising manufacturable, reasonably thin optical coatings. These coatings significantly enhance the laser-protection capabilities of the periscopes and cameras that are integral to modern platforms deployed on military land vehicles, such as tanks, armoured fighting vehicles, and personnel carriers.

Our innovative Sensor and Detector Protection solutions, including custom electro-optical protection measures coatings, play a crucial role in safeguarding sensors in advanced military infrared and day cameras and sighting systems.

By effectively blocking or redirecting damaging lasers and maximising transmission of non-threat in-band wavelengths, our coatings contribute to the safety, efficiency, and performance of modern military land vehicles and their operations
